So, just how have Toontrack attempted to make Superior, well. However, Superior Drummer 3 is now upon us and, almost nine years on, I think it is fair to say that expectations are high. We reviewed Toontrack’s Superior Drummer 2 back in December 2008 and, with numerous updates and new expansion-pack content since then, SD2 has maintained its position as one of the most popular choices for musicians wanting a top-end virtual acoustic drummer - despite some undoubtedly brilliant competition. It’s been a long time coming, but the new version of Superior Drummer raises the bar for virtual drum instruments. The revamped Drums page provides multiple sub-panels for sound editing and access to the new Song Track. Using wet/dry mixes the crap back in that you took out and is only useful when using fairly extreme EQ settings.Superior Drummer’s new UI is both slick and highly customisable. For me EQ is there to shape the sound, take out the crap and maybe emphasize the good bits and should be used fairly lightly anyway. Plus, although its somewhat common to use wet/dry for compression, i wouldn't really do it that often with EQ. When you "output", then its like plugging that signal directly into the next channel, when you "send" then its more of a wet/dry thing as both signals are independent of each other. Now the point i'm trying to make here is that there's a massive difference between a "send" and an "output". Option C: Individually apply EQ to each vocal track and send to an FX channel with compression set on it for parallel compression, then either just insert the reverb after this OR create another FX channel and send to that for the Reverb With light compression this can help "glue" vocals together, i would then use the send function on the vocal group to send to another FX channel with reverb on it. Option B: Individually apply EQ to each vocal track and output them into a separate aux buss, call this "Vocals" and use Compression as the insert on this. Option A: I would individually apply EQ and Compression to each track and send to a Reverb FX track using the send function 9 times out of 10, since 9 times out of 10 wet/dry is only needed on reverb. This is where it gets odd though, you say you want EQ, Comp, Rev.here's how I would approach it: Now to fix your problem of wet/dry, you need to instead set the output of the vocals to stereo out, and instead use the send function to get to the FX track. Try to match the levels so that when its on or bypassed they're the same volume. If you cut a lot of frequencies in an EQ or compress fairly hard, you will need to add back in some more volume with the gain trim. If you've sent them as is directly to the FX track, then you probably haven't gain staged the actual plugs properly, most plugins have gain trim. Now it sounds like you've sent the vocals completely to their FX track, so whatever you put on that track will effect them entirely unless you have a wet/dry function.
Let me explain what i think the problem is, how to fix it for what you want to do, and how I'D actually do it myself. Ok, this isn't a cubase 5 specific problem, this is an actual mixing problem.
